Workshop Duration: One-day workshop (2.5 hours in length)

Dates/Times:

Sunday, April 8th from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM

Workshop Description:

Do you ever wish your surface decorations could float in space? Have you never considered it before, but now you really want to? Perfect! Let’s bring that idea to life.

In this hands-on workshop, students will learn how to plan, carve, and sculpt designs that create the illusion of floating elements in their work. Using slab-building techniques, they will construct a wall-mounted sconce with dynamic, drippy cutouts. Each student will be given a tile to practice carving on before committing to their final piece, allowing them to experiment with different techniques and refine their design.

Throughout the workshop, the instructor will guide students through the process of slab building on a form, carving out the distinctive drippy effects, and exploring different ways to enhance their work. There will also be discussions on materials, tools, and surface treatments to help students understand how to achieve their desired results.

About the Instructor:

Ana is a potter based in North Vancouver, crafting ceramic pieces that explore movement within the stillness of clay. Growing up in Boulder, Colorado, she was surrounded by clay from an early age, fostering a deep appreciation for its expressive potential.

For the past decade, Ana worked as a designer for film, developing a strong sense of form, composition, and storytelling. Now fully dedicated to pottery, she channels that experience into creating work that captures a sense of fluidity and rhythm. Through dynamic shapes, gestural textures, and carefully considered glazes, she seeks to evoke motion—allowing each piece to feel alive, even in its stillness.

This class is for those who have basic clay experience. Perfect for those who are just starting their clay journey, or for experienced folks looking to learn a new skill
