THE CLAY WAREHOUSE SPECIAL GUEST WORKSHOP SERIES W/ JAI SALLAY-CARRINGTON (They/Them) (Figurative Sculptor)

We’re so excited to welcome Jai Sallay-Carrington (They/Them) for a series of workshops to take place in July. Jai will host some two-day workshops focussed on sculpture as well as a few one-day 2-Part Plaster Mold Making workshops.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Some clay experience is preferred, but sculpting and mold making experience not required

Jai Sallay-Carrington (They/Them) is a figurative ceramic sculptor creating works about human behaviour and emotions using anthropomorphic creatures. Reflecting on their queer and non-binary gender identity, Jai creates sculptures which challenge and analyze the dominant heteronormative and cis-gendered society.

Jai attended Emily Carr University of Art & Design in Vancouver & Concordia University in Montreal with a focus on ceramics and obtained their Bachelor of Fine Arts. From 2021 to 2023, Jai attended The University of Washington School of Art, Art History and Design in Seattle, Washington where they currently wrapping up their Master of Fine Art degree. Jai has attended many artist residencies, travelling around North America and Europe. Residencies include C.R.E.T.A Rome, Torpedo Factory Art Centre, and Tolne Gjæstgivergaard. They have been a part of many group exhibitions at galleries such as the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery, C.R.E.T.A. Gallery, and the Clay Center of New Orleans. Jai recently organized and took part in the exhibition “Distribuqueery” at NCECA (The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts) in 2023, taking place in Cincinnati, OH. They recently held their Thesis for their MFA Graduate Exhibition in Seattle, Washington USA.
