Workshop Description:
Join Sara for a creative evening of hand building your very own mug and trinket dish!
In this workshop, students will learn slab-building techniques to create a functional mug and a small matching trinket dish. You will explore some of the fundamental principles of hand building pottery while learning how to shape, assemble, and refine your pieces using slabs of clay. Students will also use custom stamps to add imprinted texture and detail to their work before decorating their pieces with underglaze.
Throughout the workshop, you will be guided through the process of constructing your forms and experimenting with surface decoration techniques to bring personality and colour to your creations. These foundational hand building skills can be applied to many future clay projects.
Once the workshop is completed, students’ pieces will be bisque-fired. A clear glaze will then be applied to make the pieces food-safe and functional before they are fired for the final time. It can take up to 3 weeks for pieces to be completed. Once finished, an email will be sent out notifying students that their work is ready for pick up.

About the Instructor:
Sara’s journey with clay began in 2024 after dreaming of seeing her artwork on a functional object. While she first explored wheel throwing, she quickly found her creative voice through hand building and has focused her practice there ever since.
Over the past year, Sara has immersed herself in studying surface texture, decorative techniques, glaze chemistry, mold making, and slip casting. Alongside her pottery practice, she works as a 3D artist, an influence that can be seen in her attention to texture, form, and detail. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge and encouraging others to explore clay as a creative medium.
