**BEGINNER WHEEL THROWING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED - Students must be able to center clay on the potter’s wheel.  Attendees will be throwing approximately 2-4 lbs of clay.  

Workshop Duration: One Time Workshop (3 hours in length)

Workshop Description:

In this engaging workshop, participants will learn the art of throwing off the hump to create miniature vessels on the wheel, a technique that allows for greater creativity and efficiency. The class will focus on crafting matchstick holders, but students are encouraged to explore their own designs and ideas while mastering this method. Throughout the session, instructors will guide participants in shaping their creations, offering tips on achieving balance, form, and texture. By the end of the workshop, attendees will have the skills to produce unique, functional pieces, including personalized matchstick holders and strikers, igniting their creative spark in the process!

** students are encouraged to bring a board to transport their thrown pieces home with them. if students wish to trim and finish in our studio, space on our WIP shelf will be given but only held for a maximum of two weeks. A booking code to finish your pieces in our studio will be given.

About the Instructor: 

Monique Skelton is the creator behind MiMOKO, a brand of ceramics designed to inspire you to live more creatively amongst plants. 

Founded in 2016, Monique has dedicated her craft to developing her range of vases, self-watering planters, and, more recently, her unique collection of wall vases. MiMOKO is known for its distinct features: architectural designs, clean lines, tactile glaze, and that signature golden drop. 

Monique has been teaching workshops, both in group situations and privately in her studio since 2020.

Workshop Details:

Location: The Clay Warehouse - #10-1770 McLean Ave. Port Coquitlam, BC, V4C 4K8

Dates/Times: Remember to arrive early so the workshop time can be used most efficiently. The below dates are two separate stand alone classes, you will choose which you’d like to attend upon checkout

Monday December 2nd from 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Monday December 9th from 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Materials: All necessary materials are provided, including clay, tools, and firing services, as well as available studio glazes if you choose to return to finish your pieces.

Who Should Attend/Skill Prerequisites: This workshop is open to those with basic clay experience and understanding, although it is not a prerequisite to have sculpting experience. Whether you're an art enthusiast, a hobbyist, or a professional artist, this workshop offers a dynamic and collaborative environment to learn and create.

Post Workshop: Instructions to make a free follow-up Open Studio reservation are provided after the workshop. 

Limited Slots Available: to ensure Monique can give everyone plenty of hands-on guidance behind the potter’s wheel, we’ve kept this Masterclass exclusive to a maximum of 10 attendees per workshop.

This workshop is open to those with basic clay experience and understanding, although it is not a prerequisite to have sculpting experience. Whether you're an art enthusiast, a hobbyist, or a professional artist, this workshop offers a dynamic and collaborative environment to learn and create.

Ensure you can commit to all class dates:

We plan our class dates far in advance to provide adequate notice for you to plan your life around our 6-week course. We ask that future students registering for this class commit to all class dates. We understand that life happens, and we do allow for one free make-up session. Make-up sessions are intended for students to catch up on missed class time and are not supervised by the teacher.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations are accepted up to 7 days before the first workshop date, and all cancellations are subject to a $50 administration fee. Cancellations made 6 days or less before the workshop will not be refunded. Once a workshop has begun, refunds will not be processed. We are a small business and must fill all spots in each class to pay our teachers and supply all materials and equipment.
