Workshop Description:
Join Shelley for this 2.5-hour lecture on understanding how to use commercial glazes to their fullest ability.
This workshop is designed to help potters gain a deeper understanding of commercial glazes and how various factors influence the final results. Through demonstrations, examples, and discussion, participants will learn practical techniques for achieving more consistent and predictable outcomes. Topics include glaze application, testing methods, troubleshooting common glaze issues, and developing confidence in selecting and combining glazes.
Suitable for potters who are struggling with glazing and who want to expand their glazing knowledge and improve the quality and consistency of their finished work.

About the Instructor:
Shelley Abbott is a ceramic artist and glaze researcher whose practice is rooted in curiosity, experimentation, and the transformative nature of the kiln. Since discovering pottery in 2019, she has developed a deep interest in commercial glazes, dedicating much of her work to testing, layering, and exploring the rich possibilities of surface development. Through an ongoing process of experimentation, Shelley embraces both unexpected outcomes and carefully refined results, viewing each firing as an opportunity for discovery. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge and insights with fellow ceramic artists, fostering a deeper appreciation for the complexity and beauty of glaze chemistry.

Clay and Glaze Experience Required:
This class is tailored for folks who have used commercial glazes before but are having difficulties achieving their desired results.
Ensure you can commit to all class dates:
We plan our class dates far in advance to provide adequate notice for you to plan your life around our workshops. We ask that future students registering for this class commit to all class dates.
Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations are accepted up to 7 days before the first workshop date, and all cancellations are subject to a $50 administration fee. Cancellations made 6 days or less before the workshop will not be refunded. Once a workshop has begun, refunds will not be processed. We are a small business and must fill all spots in each class to pay our teachers and supply all materials and equipment.
