*SPECIAL WORKSHOP* Hand-Building with Coloured Clay w/ Courtney Paige (ONE DAY WORKSHOP)

Workshop Description:

Join Courtney in creating a one-of-a-kind mug using coloured clay!

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to work with coloured clay to design unique patterns directly onto a slab, which you’ll then transform into your own handmade mug.

We’ll guide you step by step through the process, with plenty of colours to explore and play with. Whether you go bold or keep it simple, you’ll have the freedom to create something that feels like you. No experience is needed—this workshop is designed to be fun, approachable, and welcoming to everyone.

Once the workshop is completed, your pieces will be bisque fired in our studio. Courtney will then apply a clear glaze to finish your work, followed by a final glaze firing. Please allow up to five weeks for your pieces to be completed. Once everything is finished and ready for pick up, we’ll send out an email to let all students know their work is available.

Workshop Description Breakdown:

Technique: Hand building using slabs (NO POTTERY WHEEL USED)

Tools and equipment: Basic hand building tools, table work

Workshop Project: Creating a mug that you can use for beverages

Time until your art piece is ready for pick up: 5-weeks (email will be sent out when your piece is ready to pick up)

About the Instructor:

Courtney (she/her) is the co-owner and instructor at The Clay Warehouse. In her teaching, Courtney Paige encourages students to step away from rigid, engineered designs and instead lean into a more organic way of working with clay. Her approach invites experimentation with soft lines, gentle asymmetry, and subtle surface undulations that reflect the natural movement of the material. She emphasizes slowing down, observing the clay as it responds in the hands, and allowing forms to evolve intuitively rather than forcing strict structure or precision.

Materials: All necessary materials are provided, including clay, tools, and firing services, as well as studio glazes.

Post Workshop: Once your piece is finished, we will fire it in our kiln twice. Your piece will be finished with a clear glaze. Please allow up to 5-weeks to finish you piece from the last day of class. Once the pieces are done, they will be placed on our pickup shelf. Please bring an appropriate container/bag to transport your piece. Pieces will only be held for up to 30 days starting 5 weeks (35 days) after the class date (total of 65 days until piece is considered abandoned).

This class is ideal for those new to clay, seeking a different method than the potter's wheel, or looking to refresh old skills.

We plan our class dates far in advance to provide adequate notice for you to plan your life around our workshops. We ask that future students registering for this class commit to all class dates.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations are accepted up to 7 days before the first workshop date, and all cancellations are subject to a $50 administration fee. Cancellations made 6 days or less before the workshop will not be refunded. Once a workshop has begun, refunds will not be processed. We are a small business and must fill all spots in each class to pay our teachers and supply all materials and equipment.
