Time and Date: This is a 2 day workshop

Monday, September 15th and 22nd from 5:30pm - 8:00 pm.

What’s involved:

Adorable pins, keychains, magnets, and so much more—this class is all about the little things that spark joy! In this fun and beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn how to transfer your own illustrations (or use some provided designs) onto clay to create cute and colourful ceramic pieces. Whether you're into frogs, flowers, or funky patterns, you’ll leave with a handful of unique, wearable or giftable creations that are as charming as they are personal. Come play with clay and bring your illustrations to life!

In part one of this workshop, Alex will demonstrate various methods he's developed for transferring everything from doodles to complex illustrations onto clay. You'll receive hands-on support every step of the way in carving your own adorable cartoony creations!

In part two, Alex will go over mixing underglazes for custom colours, techniques for achieving gradients and painterly effects, and an underglaze wash for a crisp line-art effect that makes your work POP. You'll then be guided through the process of painting your own work with the colourful underglazes of your choosing, before passing off your pieces to Alex and the team to finish up the glazing process.

At the end of class you'll receive either a keychain, a magnet kit, or a pin kit to turn your creation into the trinket of your choice. And voila! You're now the proud parent of a sweet little friend you made yourself! And when people ask you where you got it, you can tell them "I made it!" Go ahead, you earned those bragging rights!

About the Instructor:

Alex Reeder is a queer artist and ceramicist, a lover of all things cute, who believes in the healing power of whimsy and clay. Primarily self-taught, he has been working professionally as an illustrator for over a decade. After discovering pottery in 2022 as a therapeutic medium to heal from a combination of trauma and creative burnout, he’s been developing methods to translate comics and illustration into colourful narrative ceramics. Now he’s excited to share the techniques he’s learned and hopefully spark the same joy for clay in you!

What’s included: All materials for this class are included. Once the class is over, your work will be fired and glazes in our kiln. Please allow up to three weeks for your piece to be finished and ready for pick up. Once ready, you will be notified by email that your pieces are ready for pick up.
